INTERNATION EXHIBITIONS

Several large and important exhibitions based on the National Museum of Cambodia’s excellent collection have been held outside Cambodia, allowing international audiences access to magnificent works of Khmer art. Exhibitions of Cambodian art and architecture have proven extremely popular, and are certain to continue into the future.

The first comprehensive exhibition of Cambodian sculpture to be held in the United States of America, ‘Millennium of Glory’ also travelled to France and Japan. The exhibition included 99 works of art, dated from the 6th to the 16th centuries, from the collections of the National Museum of Cambodia and the Musée Guimet in Paris.

This exhibition consisted of approximately 100 pre-Angkor, Angkor and post Angkor period works of art, form the collection of the National Museum of Cambodia. The exhibition featured a range of sculptural works from the Buddhist and Brahmanist traditions to illustrate the harmony, grandeur and beauty of Khmer art and architecture.

This exhibition represents the first major exhibition of Khmer art to be held in Germany and Switzerland. Khmer culture is famous for magnificent temples, and for the monumentality and beauty of its sculptural art. The exhibition comprises more than 200 masterpieces of Khmer art. Of central importance are the large stone sculptures from the Hindu and Buddhist temples of the ancient kingdoms of Cambodia. Complementing these works of art are exquisite bronzes, wooden figures and ceramics. The loans are mainly from museums in Cambodia, particularly the National Museum of Phnom Penh.
